Your phone is a research tool for customers who could not find answers on your site. Listen to what they ask in the first minute and you have your FAQ. For accountants, the list is remarkably consistent — and it is worth answering in writing, because AI assistants now read those answers too.
Where the questions come from
They come from your phone log and from search: small business accountant [your suburb], tax agent near me, Xero accountant for tradies. For two weeks, write down every question a caller asks before booking. You will have the list below, in your customers' own words.
1. Are you licensed and insured?
Answer with specifics on the page, not a promise: your registered tax agent number and CPA or CA membership. Put it under the headline and again beside the contact form.
2. How much will it cost?
Fixed-price packages for individual returns and small business bundles convert far better than 'contact us for a quote'. A range with the factors that move it is an answer; "contact us for a quote" is not.
3. How soon can you do it?
State your typical lead time and how booking works, and update it when the calendar fills. People would rather hear "two weeks" than nothing.
4. Do you cover my suburb?
Name the suburbs you genuinely serve on the service pages and match them to your Google Business Profile. A vague 'all areas' reads as 'probably not mine'.
5. Should an accountant list fees online?
At least starting prices for individual returns and monthly small business packages. It filters enquiries and builds trust.
6. How do I show expertise without jargon?
Write pages for the industries you serve, describing their real problems, such as job costing for builders or GST on imports for online sellers.
Where the answers live
Three or four of these under each service page, and the full set on an FAQ page. Mark them up with FAQ structured data so search engines and AI assistants can read each question and answer directly. Answer in the first sentence, then add detail.
Why this matters more now
AI answers in Google and tools like ChatGPT assemble replies from text that already answers a question plainly. An accountant whose site says exactly what it costs, who it serves and how soon is the one that gets quoted. Nobody can guarantee a mention; clarity is what makes one possible.
Common questions
Can I update the site myself?
Yes, if it is built on something you can edit. Ask before you sign. Many owners prefer a small monthly care plan so text and photo changes just get done.
Should I use a DIY website builder instead?
DIY builders work if you have the time and an eye for layout. Most owners find the real cost is the weeks spent fiddling. Compare that with a fixed-price build before deciding.
