After looking at a lot of cleaning business websites, the same problems appear again and again. None of them are about design taste. They are about missing information and friction. Here are the seven most common mistakes cleaning businesses make online, and the fix for each.
1. No prices at all when every competitor shows them
Why it matters: someone searching end of lease cleaning [your suburb] is comparing you with the next two results, and the site that answers first wins the call.
Fix: Cleaning is one of the few trades where customers expect prices online. Show hourly rates or flat prices by home size, and what is excluded.
2. The same page for a $150 weekly clean and a $600 bond clean
Why it matters: every point of friction loses a small percentage of visitors, and small percentages of every visitor add up to most of your missed enquiries.
Fix: be specific. Name the real services (regular home cleaning, end-of-lease (bond) cleaning and office and commercial cleaning), the real suburbs and the real people.
3. No mention of insurance or police checks, the two things people worry about when letting strangers in
Why it matters: busy households, tenants moving out, real estate agents and office managers decide from a phone in under a minute, and anything they cannot find they assume you do not offer.
Fix: add the one sentence a careful customer is looking for, in plain words, on the page they land on — not in the footer.
4. Opening hours that differ between the website, Google and the front door
Fix: Pick one source of truth, update it everywhere on the same day, and add public-holiday hours a week ahead.
5. No service area, or a service area that claims the whole state
Fix: Name the suburbs you genuinely cover. It helps people decide and it is what local search looks for.
6. A contact form with too many fields and no reply-time promise
Fix: Ask for name, phone and a one-line description. Say when you reply, then do it.
7. Stock photos instead of your own
Fix: Customers recognise stock imagery instantly and quietly discount everything else on the page. Ten honest phone photos beat a licensed gallery.
How to check your own site
- Hand your phone to someone who does not know the business and ask them to find your price for regular home cleaning.
- Watch where they hesitate. Each hesitation is a lost enquiry at scale.
- Compare hours, phone and address with Google.
- Count stock photos and PDFs.
- Write down three fixes for this week and three for next month.
Common questions
How do I stand out from franchise cleaners?
Name the people, show the checklist, and publish the guarantee. Franchises often hide all three.
Do cleaning websites need online booking?
It helps for regular cleans. For end-of-lease work a fast quote form with property size is usually enough.
Do I need a .com.au domain?
For an Australian business, .com.au signals you are local and requires an ABN, which customers and search engines both read as a trust signal. Keep the .com too if you already own it.
If you would like a second opinion on your current site, send the URL through the contact page and we will reply with three practical fixes. New builds start at $499 for a one-page site and $999 for a site with service pages — see pricing.
